53. Hexagram 53: Jian — Gradual Development

King Wen sequence Hexagram 53, 风山渐 (Jian, rendered here as Gradual Development). Use it only to identify the primary or changed hexagram of the actual cast, after checking the upper and lower trigrams. The English title is a project-internal label whose translation attribution is unverified, and it states no outcome by itself. Its romanisation Jian is shared with Jian; a pinyin hit must not silently pick one of them.

Structure before interpretation

Upper trigram: Wind. Lower trigram: Mountain. Line positions are counted from the bottom. The number is the received King Wen order, not the Eight-Palace classification.

  1. Line 1: yin (broken)
  2. Line 2: yin (broken)
  3. Line 3: yang (solid)
  4. Line 4: yin (broken)
  5. Line 5: yang (solid)
  6. Line 6: yang (solid)

Which lines move?

This reference has no casting record, so no moving lines are asserted. Your original cast determines those positions. The changed hexagram follows the recorded moving lines; a glossary definition cannot supply missing casting facts.
