Why a single sentence from a classic needs context

阅读中文版

Keep the work, chapter, surrounding passage and conditions together. A matching keyword does not establish that a passage applies to a chart.

Preserve the source

A memorable classical sentence may omit the conditions needed to interpret it. Record the work, chapter and surrounding paragraphs. A quotation circulating online may be an excerpt, a paraphrase or a later author's comment. Until you check it, describe it as an unverified statement rather than assigning it a classical source.

Read the conditions

Does the passage define a concept, describe a particular configuration or explain a method? Shared star names do not establish the same placement or combination. Keep palace, object and configuration conditions attached to the text.

Separate quotation from explanation

Use two columns in your notes: exact wording and source on one side, your understanding on the other. An AI translation or summary belongs in the second column. It should not later be mistaken for the original wording. Different traditions may use similar words differently.

Leave room for unresolved evidence

When sources differ, compare their context before seeking a single conclusion. A passage without a traceable source can remain a research lead; it need not become evidence for a personal judgment. English terminology can help navigation without replacing the Chinese original or proving equivalence between systems.

Browse the classical library by work and chapter. A text-search match means words occur in a passage; it does not show that every condition applies to your chart.
